How’s your Wardrobe Looking? | Styling Matters

Hands up who has loads of clothes, but nothing to wear?  Got any clothes that have been worn just once ? Or eek….. still have the tags on?! Find ‘smart/casual’ wear really tricky? Hate all clothes shopping? Find it hard to put together a stylish outfit?  If you have answered yes to any (or all) of the above questions – you are not alone!

I’m Lynne Meek of Styling Matters – a Tunbridge Wells based personal stylist covering most of the South East. Over the years I’ve worked with hundreds of men and women, ranging from 13-80 years old, sizes 6-18, and all with very different colouring, lifestyle and personalities.

A few years ago we were in the depths of a terrible recession and I was still working in the corporate world where I had been since my early twenties. With many questioning my sanity, I jumped ship and joined a niche ladieswear boutique. The next two years served as an incredible ‘apprenticeship’ and massive learning curve, and became a natural segue into becoming a personal stylist.  By then my children were young adults, I had masses of life experience behind me, a natural empathy with people and an eye for style.  It was a ‘now or never’ moment to start my own business.  I’ve never looked back!

I mainly work with mothers of young children who long to look and feel themselves again, and business people who need to project an attractive and professional image for their businesses, but who have little ‘me’ time.  I also enjoy working with teenagers, giving them the tools of self-knowledge for years to come, and with mature ladies who feel that retailers have forgotten them but still want to look fabulous.

My most popular service is the Wardrobe Edit. I love them too! When I arrive at a new client’s house we always start off with a cuppa and a chat. It can be a daunting thought, having a stranger go through their wardrobe, and it’s lovely to see them relax and their shoulders go down as we get to know each other. Once we have done a colour, shape and style analysis it soon becomes clear to me why some things in their wardrobe look fabulous, why some things don’t, where the problem areas are, and why some items haven’t been worn at all. The result is a cleansed, organised and more efficient wardrobe that sparks joy instead of dread every morning. A shopping trip often, but not always, follows to fill in any gaps and create a more functional capsule wardrobe.  I also do Style up your Wardrobe sessions for people who have plenty of clothes and don’t need any more, they just want lots of stylish outfit ideas for every occasion.

My services are often engaged because someone is feeling despondent about their wardrobe. Once they understand why things work, and why they don’t, it can be an incredibly liberating and therapeutic experience.  I adore my job, and being able to pass on my knowledge and experience to my clients and see the confidence that brings to them is the best feeling in the world.
