DAY 3 | Wedding Stylist VINTAGE AMY

Tell us about your business and how you became a professional in the industry…

Vintage Amy specialises in styling and hiring for weddings, with a focus on soft, romantic & elegant vintage weddings. I also style other events and will be running styling workshops in the near future. I started the business when I was on maternity leave. I knew I didn’t want to return to my Office Manager job in London, and wanted to start my own business, being creative and applying my love of vintage. I love all things pretty and making things look “just so”, so decided to become a stylist.

What Wellness rituals do you swear by?

When my son doesn’t wake me up at Silly O’clock, on a busy work day I have started setting my alarm so I get up before he wakes. During this time I have some lemon & water, I read a self-learning book or listen to a podcast, write in my journal, incorporating 3 things I am grateful for, and do some stretches. Since I have started doing this, it massively helps my mind and sets me up for the day. Scheduling in ‘me’ time is a biggie for me. I’m very strict with using my Gmail calendar to block my day out from the morning I wake up to when I go to bed, so when I’m planning this I try and put in at least one thing a week for me, this can be a massage or hair cut, or a vintage shopping trip, or even just a coffee with a book. When I’m feeling stressed and tired the 3 things that help me are drinking more water, having a night off from the phone scrolling, and having an early night. I’m at my best with a 9pm bedtime!

What are your tips for incorporating Wellness into a busy schedule?

Time blocking and being strict with it. It’s very hard to remember yourself when you’re busy with work, the house, the children, etc. But if you forget yourself, you will massively deteriorate and the others will be affected. We are all so busy, but little things can make a huge difference, like drinking more water, scheduling in an hour’s lunch so you’re not eating toast at your desk, getting up regularly for a stretch and preparing healthy meals and snacks in advance. Also if you can start to journal, I thoroughly recommend it if you struggle with feeling overwhelmed or low in mood at all. I am going to give mediation a go in 2018 – I’ll keep you posted!
