I own Kate Phipps Writes, a creative poetry brand writing private poetry commissions and selling prints of poems called “Words to go”. I used to work within branding but have always written, when I had children I started a blog and lots of friends said that I should try and sell my work. So I set-up an instagram account and have been lucky enough to turn my hobby into my living. I love using poetry as my creative outlet and have been amazed at how my work seems to resonate with strangers, it has been a really wonderful experience so far.
Running has always been a big part of my life. It has kept me fit and healthy but more than that as someone who struggles with anxiety at times it has really helped me to manage that successfully. Now I go running with my little ones and I am trying to help them to integrate this into their lives as a way of managing stress. Its really important to me that I try and teach my kids about what their bodies can do, not what they look like!
I work from home so I am really lucky in that I can manage my own diary. Sometimes my runs are really short but I think it is really important to try to work some kind of work out / relaxation technique into your day even if it just about getting a change of scene, mentally it really helps me to focus and relax. I have kids so I find going out straight after school drop off always works, otherwise if I leave it I tend to get wrapped up in something and find it harder to take the time. Our lives are becoming so busy and often sedentary so I think it is really important to take time to focus on our physical and mental health too and if I ignore it I (and my family 😉 definitely notice the difference.
